Women Supporting Women

Who Are We?

Women Supporting Women developed from an idea that a group of local women had in 1992. Originally focusing on post natal depression, the project has been informed by the women who have used its services over the years and now offers a range of provision including one-to-one support, groupwork opportunities and a befriending service. The project also campaigns on a range of women’s health issues, including post natal depression and violence against women.

Who is it for?

Women Supporting Women primarily targets women living in Greater Pilton (Drylaw, Granton, Muirhouse, Pilton and Royston/Wardieburn). If you have ever felt down, depressed or isolated, then our services might help. Many women tell us that they feel unhappy, tearful, anxious or worried, irritable or frustrated, exhausted physically and emotionally, angry or guilty, or any combination of these feelings. The feelings may arrive all at once or may develop over time. You may feel alone and that no-one understands.

    Befriending

Our befriending service is now available to all women living in the Greater Pilton area, not just to women with young children.

We offer a befriending service where you could be matched with a trained woman volunteer. They can meet you and spend time listening, or chum you to the shops or out for a coffee. They can help you find out what's on offer in the area and help you join groups or activities - if you want and when you feel ready. Our volunteers receive on-going training, support and supervision.
