The Move It project aims to:
Increase the number of local people participating in physical activity
To increase the awareness of the benefits of exercise in counteracting physical and emotional ill health
Identify and address common barriers to participation
Provide opportunities for local people to take part in physical activity
What we do
There is a well-established programme of open sessions that run weekly in various neighbourhood centres locally. This includes activities such as Tai Chi, Aquafit, Jive/Salsa, Line Dancing, Keep fit and Tea Dances. Go to our Courses, events and groups page for more information.
The classes cost between 50p and £2 and crèche facilities are provided where possible to remove barriers to participation. The classes can be attended by anyone living in the Forth Neighbourhood Partnership area. The programme is under constant development in order to meet the needs and demands of the local community.
The ‘Move It’ project works in partnership with other agencies in the local area and regularly organises taster sessions where requested.
Much of the project’s work is done with the elderly community. The project regularly visits residential homes, sheltered housing and churches in the area to deliver chair-based exercise.
The project received recognition in 2005′s ‘Get up & Go’ awards for ‘Ensuring the inclusion of older people within the city of Edinburgh’.
